Research

My research focuses on translingual Indigenous writing from a decolonial perspective to examine how Indigenous poetry can affect change in the world. For example, in my PhD research I have analyzed how Indigenous language revitalization is portrayed and enacted in Indigenous women’s poetry and, vice versa, how poetry contributes to Indigenous language revitalization through the concept and practice of poems-as-language-lessons.

In my research, I aim for accessibility and cross-cultural dialogue through multilingual and creative scholarship. For the interdisciplinary, community-focused Just Powers walk series, aimed at transforming the City of Edmonton’s approach to climate, I will lead City employees on an Indigenous poetry walk this Spring (2025) to “read” climate change around us through poetry.
